XVIII. OF THE WORLD TO COME
We believe that the end of the world is approaching; that at the last day Christ will descend from heaven, and raise the dead from the grave to final retribution; that a solemn separation will then take place; that the wicked will be adjudged to endless punishment, and the righteous to endless joy; and that this judgment will fix forever the final state of men in heaven or hell, or principles of righteousness.

- Two worlds: here and hereafter
- This world and the world to come - Matt. 12:32; Eph. 1:21
- The world to come - Mark 10:30
- Delivered from this present world - Gal. 1:4
- The last day
- John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
- John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
- In that day, God will make up his jewels - Malachi 3:17 And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
- In that day, there will be a great cataclysm for the unbelievers - Revelation 11:15 And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become [the kingdoms] of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
- In that day, there will be a great climax for believers - John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, [there] ye may be also.
- Vengeance will be brought against the wicked; bliss will be given to the righteous.
- This will be a day of loss for the wicked, a day of victory for Christ and his people.
- THIS WILL BE A DAY OF CHRIST'S POWER
- Christ will resurrect the believers to new life
- Receive you unto myself (John 14:3)
- 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: 17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

- Christ will raise the lost 1,000 years after the saved are raised.
- Revelation 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This [is] the first resurrection.
- The wicked will be raised to everlasting punishment and contempt -
- Daniel 12:2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame [and] everlasting contempt.

- IN THIS DAY, GOD'S PRINCIPLES OF RIGHTEOUSNESS WILL PREVAIL
- Genesis 18:25 That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
- Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened [his] mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
- The saved will have nothing about which to boast in Heaven; the lost will have no one to blame but self for being in Hell.
