New Hampshire Confession of Faith #2
Pastor Ronnie Wolfe

Article II. OF THE TRUE GOD (Theology)
We believe that there is one, and only one, living and true God, an
infinite, intelligent Spirit, whose name is JEHOVAH, the Maker and Supreme Ruler
of heaven and earth; inexpressibly glorious in holiness, and worthy of all
possible honor, confidence, and love; that in the unity of the Godhead there are
three persons, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost; equal in every divine
perfection, the executing distinct and harmonious offices in the great work of
redemption

- GOD IN RELATION TO HIS NATURE
- He is only one God and living God
- Mark 12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said
the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he:
- 1 Timothy 2:5 For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and
men, the man Christ Jesus;
- God is not a part of nature. He is separate and apart from his
creation
- Deuteronomy 5:26 For who [is there of] all flesh, that hath heard the
voice of the living God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as we
[have], and lived?
- He is a Spirit
- John 4:24 God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship
[him] in spirit and in truth.
- He has infinite intelligence
- Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are]
your ways my ways, saith the LORD.
- John 16:30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest
not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest
forth from God.
- His name is Jehovah
- His name is mentioned in Genesis 1:1.
- His name means "I am" or "the existing one."
- It is not a name simply to distinguish himself from other people.
- GOD IN RELATION TO THE UNIVERSE
- God is the creator of the universe (Genesis 1:1)
- He was before the beginning - Psalms 90:2 Before the mountains were
brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even
from everlasting to everlasting, thou [art] God.
- He was at the beginning - John 1:1 "In the beginning God
..."
- God made all things
- God made the firmament (Gen. 1:7)
- God made two great lights (Gen. 1:16)
- God made the beast of the earth (Gen. 1:25)
- God made the earth and the heavens (Gen. 2:4)
- God made man (Gen. 9:6)
- God is the Supreme Ruler of the universe
- The whole universe turns to God (Heb. 1:2; Col. 1:17)
- GOD IN RELATION TO HIS CREATURES
- God is Holy in relation to his creatures
- God is not capable of wickedness, injustice or evil of any kind.
- No created being can be treated unjustly by God.
- God's holiness is an active holiness. He never fails to do good and
right.
- God is worthy to be worshiped by his creatures
- God is the only living being who is to be worshiped
- The creature (person) who worships God links his soul to him, and God
uplifts his creatures in character and purpose
- God is superior to all creatures. He is superior in authority and to
be worshiped
- God is worthy of confidence from his creatures
- God can be trusted, because he is always truthful (Titus 1:2)
- He cannot and will not disappoint those who trust in him.
- God is love in regard to his creatures
- God could have been everything but lovable.
- Even the most lovable person is unlovable at times, but God is always
love - 1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
- GOD'S REVELATION OF HIMSELF
- God is revealed to man as Father, Son and Holy Spirit
- This does not mean that there are three Gods.
- We speak of the Godhead as including three persons, because our
language cannot express it in a better way.
- All three persons are personal nature.
- One does not encroach on the others
- One is not antagonistic to the others
- Yet each person is individual
- Each person of the Trinity is equal to the others
- In scripture they are all worshiped
- In scripture they are all credited with the works of God
- The Trinity is revealed as being active in redemption
- The Father has the wisdom to redeem men
- The Son suffered to redeem men
- The Sprit regenerates the man and draws him to faith in Christ.
- God is a mystery, and God has revealed himself to man in a limited sense
- We cannot answer all questions about God because of his transcendence.
- However, we cannot dismiss the questions that arise because they
cannot be fully explained.
- The Trinity answers many of the problems of the human soul.
