III. OF THE FALL OF MAN - Hamartiology (Doctrine Of Sin)
We believe that man was created in holiness, under the law of his Maker;
but by voluntary transgression fell from that holy and happy state; in
consequence of which all mankind are now sinners, not by constraint, but choice;
being by nature utterly void of that holiness required by the law of God,
positively inclined to evil; and therefore under just condemnation to eternal
ruin, without defense or excuse.

Introduction
Everyone who is honest will admit that sin exists. Sin is strictly a human
experience. Animals do not sins, and inanimate objects do not sin-only people
sin!
Sin has no favorites and does not contain itself within any one race, creed
or economic status. It is everywhere-universal. Neither does it limit itself to
adults but afflicts decagenarian (10-year-olds) as well as the octogenarian
(80-year-olds).
The Bible speaks of a Savior, and that Savior must save us from something -
that something is sin (Matt. 1:21).
- THE DEFINITION OF SIN
- Sin Manifests Itself In Our Bad Relationship with God.
- Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your
God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.
- Jeremiah 5:25 ¶ Your iniquities have turned away these [things], and
your sins have withholden good [things] from you.
- Sin Manifests Itself In Our Bad Attitude Toward God
- Sin does not recognize the need for God - Romans 8:7 Because the
carnal mind [is] enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of
God, neither indeed can be.
- Sin does not love God - 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the
things [that are] in the world. If any man love the world, the love of
the Father is not in him.
- Sin would assassinate God if possible - Psalms 14:1 The fool hath said
in his heart, [There is] no God. They are corrupt, they have done
abominable works, [there is] none that doeth good.
- Sin Manifests Itself In Our Bad Attitude Toward Others
- "The essence of sin of selfishness" - Notice the nature of
the wicked king and of sinners in Isaiah 14:13-14: "I will ascend
... I will exalt my throne ... I will sit ... I will ascend above ... I
will be like the most high."
- Sin manifests itself in acts against other humans: murder, deceit,
harassment, assault., etc., (See Romans 1:29-32)
- Sin Manifests Itself In A Bad Attitude Toward Oneself
- People boast in themselves and love power; but sin destroys the body
-- James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and
sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
- People are basically selfish - 2 Timothy 3:2 For men shall be lovers
of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient
to parents, unthankful, unholy,
- THE DERIVATIVE OF SIN
- Sin came from Satan. He is the author of it. We received it from our
first father, Adam. Its story goes back as far as history can take us.
- Adam voluntarily sinned. God gave him the power of choice in the
beginning. Man departed from obeying God.
- From Adam's time, sin is passed down from parents to children. This is
called Traducianism, which Random House Unabridged Dictionary says
the meaning is "the doctrine that the human soul is propagated along
with the body," and thus the sin that comes at birth. Others believe
in Creationism, which means that God creates the soul and places it
in a person at conception.
- Even though our sinful nature is passed along to us by our parents, we
are all personally responsible for our own sins. The Law states:
Deuteronomy 24:16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children,
neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man
shall be put to death for his own sin.
- THE DESTRUCTION OF SIN
- Every man is judged according to the law
- Those without law (Gentiles) - Romans 2:12 For as many as have sinned
without law shall also perish without law:
- Those with law (Jews) -- Romans 2:12 ... and as many as have sinned in
the law shall be judged by the law;
- Every man is required by God to keep the law - James 2:10 For whosoever
shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one [point], he is guilty of
all.
- As a result, condemnation comes - Romans 5:18 Therefore as by the
offence of one [judgment came] upon all men to condemnation; even so by
the righteousness of one [the free gift came] upon all men unto
justification of life.
- This condemnation brings ruin and misery in this life and eternal fire
for eternity.
