New Hampshire Confession of Faith #4
Pastor Ronnie Wolfe

IV. OF THE WAY OF SALVATION (Soterology)
We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly of grace through the
mediatorial offices of the Son of God, who by the appointment of the Father,
freely took upon him our nature, yet without sin; honored the divine law by his
personal obedience, and by his death made a full atonement for our sins; that
having risen from the dead, he is now enthroned in heaven; and uniting in his
wonderful person the tenderest sympathies with divine perfection, he is every
way qualified to be a suitable, a compassionate, and an all sufficient Saviour.

- MEANING AND MESSAGE OF SALVATION
- The Message of Salvation Is Very Important
- Baptists are in disagreement with so many others in this doctrine.
- We can disagree in many points but not in this one
- A disagreement in this point will be the difference in eternal life
and eternal death.
- Salvation Is Being Saved
- Deliverance from breaking God's law.
- Salvation deals with man's condition and his actions
- Salvation changes a person from what he is to something different
- 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new
creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
- Man Is Not Able To Save Himself
- He does not have the heart - Jeremiah 17:9 The heart [is] deceitful
above all [things], and desperately wicked: who can know it?
- He does not have the power - John 1:13 Which were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
- Even if man could begin now to live without sin, he is insufficient to
rid himself of the guilt of his past sin.
- Salvation, Then, Must Be By Grace
- Grace is "unmerited favor of God." That means that God gives
salvation as a gift to men who are not worthy of it.
- Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves: [it is] the gift of God:
- Man Is Saved From Sins
- Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, [who is] the faithful witness,
[and] the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the
earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own
blood,
- THE WORKING OUT OF SALVATION
- Salvation comes only through the Son of God, Jesus Christ -- Matthew
1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS:
for he shall save his people from their sins.
- Salvation comes from heaven, not from earth - John 3:3 Jesus answered
and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born
again [or 'from agove'], he cannot see the kingdom of God.
- Salvation came from a sinless Savior - Hebrews 4:15 For we have not an
high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities;
but was in all points tempted like as [we are, yet] without sin.
- He kept the law perfectly - Ceremonial and Moral law alike
- He resisted evil; he overcame temptation; he obeyed every purpose of
God in his life.
- Jesus obeyed not only Moses' law; he obeyed God's eternal law. This
obedience brought him to his death on Calvary - Hebrews 5:8 Though he
were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; -
Philippians 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself,
and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
- Salvation Is Wrought By Jesus' Resurrection
- This demonstrated his power over sin and death
- His resurrection justified us - 1 Peter 1:3 Blessed [be] the God and
Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy
hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus
Christ from the dead,
- SALVATION MUST HAVE A SAVIOR
- Jesus Is a Human Savior -- Luke 2:11 For unto you is born this day in
the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
- Jesus Is The Living Savior -- 1 Timothy 4:10 For therefore we both
labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the
Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe - Hebrews 7:25
Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God
by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
- Jesus Saves -- 2 Timothy 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing
of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought
life and immortality to light through the gospel:
