CHILDREN OF THE FIRE

Children of fire, how iniquity tells its tale
As fire falls down from heaven and men bewail
Their small estate before a God so great
As flames of judgment come and are not late.
How burn your children whom your hearts deceive
And in these flames they cannot be relieved?
How perish all the souls that lived in thee
To dark unquenching flames eternally? (Jude 1:7)
Did Lot by part or whole give thee the word
That he is God’s and God is his dear Lord?
Did even once he mention of the fire
That judges sin in God’s selected hour?
If God had in his wisdom come to thee
And done the things he did beside the sea, (Matt. 11:23)
You would believe, and in his grace would stand
And fire would not consume your precious land.
But in wise counsel God withdrew his hand
And caused destruction in your cursed land
That we, his children, might in all we see
Totally with his word and him agree.
Fair city, Sodom, is no more to see
But witness has its place in us to be
That when God’s judgment comes in perfect hour,
Like Sodom, men are children of the fire.
