Christology #3
The Deity of Christ
Oct. 2, 2005 (AM) - Pastor Ronnie Wolfe

John 10:30 I and [my] Father are one.

Words To Recognize

Incarnation B The act of Jesus= becoming flesh to dwell among his people and his creation, to live a perfect life, and then to die for the sins of his people. (John 1:14)

Ebionism B An early heresy regarding Christ= s nature that originated from a Jewish sect called the Ebionites. They taught that Jesus of Nazareth was a good teacher and prophet, but that he was in no way divine.

Arianism B a Christological view held by followers of Arius, a Christian priest who lived and taught in Alexandria, Egypt, in the early 4th century. Arius taught that God the Father and the Son were not always contemporary, seeing the pre-incarnate Jesus as a divine being but nonetheless created by (and consequently inferior to) the Father at some point ... (Wikipedia Encyclopedia)

If Christ Jesus is not God, then we are of men most miserable. We would have to rely on ourselves for salvation or either trust in a man who is less than perfect. We would have wonder if he ever sinned. He could not have been our perfect sacrifice for sin if he were not God himself. Ge 22:8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

    3. Php 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth;

Conclusion

So, thee is no doubt according to the abundant scriptures that I have used today. Jesus IS God. Many will try to tell you that he isn= t. The Ebionites teach that Jesus was simply the physical son of Mary and Joseph. The Arians (who exist today among the Unitarians and others) teach that Jesus was similar to God but is not God actually. There is a complete theology and creed based upon this principle.

If Jesus is not God, then he came to earth for nothing, for he was just another man who was under the curse of the law because of his own sin. Romans 3:23, which says, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; would apply to him as well as to every other person under heaven.

When a person believes in Jesus, he believes in God. If Jesus were not God, any person who believes in Jesus would not have to believe in God necessarily. But the Bible says in Heb 11:6 But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

In coming to Christ, we are coming to God. Jesus is because God is; he is of the same essence. If God is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him, Jesus is also a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. You cannot have Jesus without God, and you cannot have God without Jesus.

If our faith is in God, it could very well not be in Jesus Christ. That would make his work on Calvary very unnecessary. It would make his incarnation very unnecessary. He came to earth for no reason and died for no cause, and we are still in our sins; they are not paid for.

If our faith is in Jesus and not in God, then we do not need God. Jesus becomes simply an example of a good life, but a good life is not sufficient for salvation. We must be born again (John 3:3).

Without faith, it is impossible to please God; so our faith must be in Jesus Christ in order to please God.

Jesus IS God! Don= t have any doubts about that. The question is the same as Pilate asked when Jesus was alive on the earth, A What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ?@ The crowd said, A Let him be crucified.@ (Mat. 27:22).

What will you say? In a story the Lord was telling in Luke 19:14, the said that the citizens of a certain country said, A We will not have this man to reign over us.@

But we must ask what the Philippian jailor asked, A What must I do to be saved?@ Then we must hear the same simple answer that Paul and Silas gave him, A Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.@

Will you ask that question today and hear that answer today?
