Gambling
- GAMBLING VIOLATES THE N. T. PRINCIPLE OF STEWARDSHIP
- Lu 12:42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise
steward, whom [his] lord shall make ruler over his household, to give [them
their] portion of meat in due season?
- On day we must give an account of our stewardship: Lu 16:1 And he
said also unto his disciples, There was a certain rich man, which had a
steward; and the same was accused unto him that he had wasted his goods. 2
And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee?
give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward.
- GAMBLING VIOLATES THE BIBLICAL LAW OF LOVE
- Mt 22:39 And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy
neighbour as thyself.
- Mt 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do
to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.
- 1Co 10:24 Let no man seek his own, but every man another=
s [wealth].
- GAMBLING VIOLATES THE BIBLICAL LAW OF SOCIETY
- Mt 7:17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a
corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.
- The believer is to bring forth good fruit, not evil fruit.
- More frequently than not, gambling robs children of food and proper
clothing.
- Legal does not mean good
- New Jersey legalized gambling in 1978, and that year crime went up
92%.
GAMBLING ENCOURAGES MATERIALISM
- Matt. 6:19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth
and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay
up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth
corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your
treasure is, there will your heart be also. 22 The light of the body is the
eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of
light. 23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of
darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is
that darkness! 24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the
one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the
other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
GAMBLING VIOLATES THE BIBLICAL LAW OF FAITH
- Mr 5:36 As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith
unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
- Heb 13:5 [Let your] conversation [be] without covetousness; [and be]
content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave
thee, nor forsake thee.
GAMBLING VIOLATES THE BIBLICAL LAW OF PROPHECY
- Ps 49:10 For he seeth [that] wise men die, likewise the fool and the
brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
- Prophecy is in the hand of the Lord - Da 4:35 And all the inhabitants
of the earth [are] reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in
the army of heaven, and [among] the inhabitants of the earth: and none can
stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?
GAMBLING IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE WORKS OF THE FLESH
- 1 John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the
world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the
eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
- Pr 23:4 Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.
- Pr 28:20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that
maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent.Pr 28:22 He that hasteth
to be rich [hath] an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall
come upon him.
- Lu 12:21 So [is] he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not
rich toward God.
- Pr 13:11 Wealth [gotten] by vanity shall be diminished: but he that
gathereth by labour shall increase.
- Pr 28:22 He that hasteth to be rich [hath] an evil eye, and
considereth not that poverty shall come upon him.
CONCLUSION
- Prov. 30:8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither
poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: 9 Lest I be full,
and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and
take the name of my God in vain.
