THE INCARNATION OF CHRIST

Sept. 25, 2005 (PM) - Pastor Ronnie Wolfe

Text: John 1:14

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Introduction

We know now that Jesus Christ is eternal. He was not created; he was not discovered; he did not build himself up from man to God; he is God in all the attributes and is in harmony and unity with the Father and the Spirit.

Now we will discuss his Incarnation, or his work among men related to the purpose and plan of God.

  1. THE PROPHECY OF HIS INCARNATION
    1. The Prophecy Of A Seed That Would Come
      1. Gen. 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
      2. This is the first prophecy (given to Satan himself) as a scolding reminder to Satan that one day this Messiah would come and bruise his head.
      3. Jesus, even after seeing the devastation of sin that Adam and Eve had committed in the garden, showed mercy upon them by clothing them with coats of skin to symbolize the grace that God had shown upon them by not physically killing them after their sin.
      4. Then the Lord spoke to Satan about this promise of the coming of the Messiah to bruise his head.
      5. The intimidation at this point upon Satan much have been tremendous as the Lord pronounced his doom about 4,000 years before it actually happened.
      6. The promised seed did come in the fullness of time: Gal. 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, 5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
      7. Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;
    2. The Prophecy That A Virgin Would Have A Son
      1. Isa 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
      2. Mt 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
    3. The Prophecy That Immanuel Would Be Born
      1. Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
      2. The word Immanuel means A God with us.@ See the scripture already used (Isa. 7:14).
      3. Mt 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
    4. The Prophecy That He Would Come Out of Bethelehem
      1. Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, [though] thou be little among the thousands of Judah, [yet] out of thee shall he come forth unto me [that is] to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth [have been] from of old, from everlasting.

  2. THE PERSON OF HIS INCARNATION
    1. He was God manifested in the flesh B Ro 8:3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: He was completely God, not just 1/3 of the Godhead.
    2. He was the God-man: two natures, one divine and the other human.
    3. He was the Son of God conceived by the Holy Spirit B Mt 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
    4. He was the Son of man B born of a human virgin.
    5. He was and is Jesus B the Savior, the new Joshua, the only one who can save us from our sins. Ac 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
    6. He was Emmanuel B God with us.
    7. He was the Last Adam B 1 Cor 15:45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam [was made] a quickening spirit.

  3. THE PURPOSE OF HIS INCARNATION
    1. To seek and to save B Lu 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.
    2. To save his people from their sins B Mt 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
    3. To comfort his people B Joh 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
    4. To die for our sins B Ga 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
    5. To seal us with the Holy Spirit B Eph 1:13 In whom ye also [trusted], after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
    6. To enter into God= s holy place B Heb 9:24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, [which are] the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:
      1. Christ came to satisfy an eternal justice against our sins.
      2. In order to do this, he had to enter into heaven itself in his ascension to appear in the presence of God for us, to intercede for us for guarantee our security and deliverance.
    7. To give us a blessed hope B Tit 2:13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
      1. One day Christ will split open the skies, and we shall be taken out of this old world.
      2. He will take us to be with himself B John 1:2 In my Father= s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Conclusion

So Christ came from glory, emptied himself of all his power in order that he might be like unto his brethren: Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto [his] brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things [pertaining] to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

If Jesus Christ was willing to do that for me, what can I do but give my life for him?

Today we need to understand what Jesus Christ did for us. He could have stayed in heaven. He could have called a million angels to come and take him down from the cross. He could have killed all of his enemies and destroyed the kingdoms of the world. But Jesus had a plan to save his people from their sins, and that is what is doing right now.

This is a time of grace, a time for repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. He is waiting his coming so that all of children will be saved. Read with me Heb. 3:7 Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice, 8 Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: 9 When your fathers tempted me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. 10 Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. 11 So I sware in my wrath, They shall not enter into my rest.)

For those who will harden their hearts, God will not allow them to enter into his rest. Will you enter into that rest today by repenting and believing in Jesus Christ? Don= t wait another day.

The Bible has told you the truth. Now what will you do with it?
